About
Kristina Buchthal Alkass is a partner at Lavelle Law, Ltd., where she concentrates her practice on family and divorce law and civil litigation. She is known for her strategic preparation, assertive courtroom advocacy, and dedication to achieving favorable outcomes for her clients. Kristina’s philosophy centers on thorough preparation—she believes that being trial-ready often leads to stronger settlements and helps clients avoid the stress and expense of prolonged litigation.
Kristina earned her J.D. from DePaul University College of Law, where she received the Dean’s Merit Scholarship, and her B.S. in Journalism from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. Her legal education and writing background enhance her ability to craft persuasive arguments and communicate effectively both inside and outside the courtroom. She is admitted to the Illinois Supreme Court and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
Recognized among Illinois Super Lawyers Rising Stars from 2014 to 2018, Kristina is respected by peers and clients for her professionalism and integrity. She is a member of the Northwest Suburban Bar Association and frequently contributes to Lavelle Law’s legal education efforts, including the firm’s podcast, Chicago’s Legal Latte, and instructional video series.
Beyond her legal practice, Kristina Buchthal Alkass is dedicated to serving the community. She volunteers as an attorney with Between Friends, a nonprofit supporting survivors of domestic abuse, and has served on its Board of Directors.
