Kevin Shay

Kevin Shay is a San Antonio estate planning and probate lawyer and an Of Counsel Attorney at Marquardt Law Firm, P.C. with more than three decades of practice experience. He focused his career on estate planning, probate, small business law, and related tax matters. He advised individuals and business owners on protecting and transferring assets, planning for incapacity, and structuring family or closely held businesses. He retired from direct client service at the end of May 2026 after a career.

Kevin earned his J.D. from the University of Iowa in 1979 and was admitted to practice in Texas in 1983. He became Board Certified in Estate Planning and Probate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He also held a C.P.A. credential and later identified that accounting credential as retired. His legal and accounting background supported his work on estate, tax, probate, and business planning matters for Texas clients.

Kevin worked with clients to design wills, trusts, and strategies addressing estate distribution and financial management during incapacity. He also advised closely held and family-owned businesses on entity formation and business planning, including limited liability companies, partnerships, corporations, and family limited partnerships. He helped clients consider tax costs, court expenses, professional fees, ownership structures, and succession goals while developing plans tailored to specific family and business circumstances over many years.

Kevin Shay serves in an Of Counsel transition role after retiring from active solo practice at the end of May 2026. He joined that role to help transition his former practice and support continuity for existing clients and future referrals, while no longer directly servicing clients. His career reflects decades of work in estate planning, probate, business law, and tax-related planning for individuals, families, and small business owners in Texas.
