About
Katya Banta has been deeply involved in immigration law since 2009, beginning her career as an immigration paralegal in New York City and Tyler, Texas. Over the years, she has successfully represented clients in asylum, DACA, Green Card renewal, consular processing, and naturalization cases. Her work reflects a commitment to protecting immigrants’ rights and navigating intricate legal systems.
Katya earned dual Bachelor’s degrees in Human Resource Management and German from the University of Tennessee, followed by a Master’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in International Business from Hofstra University. She later achieved her Juris Doctorate from Mitchell Hamline School of Law and was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 2020. She is also authorized to practice federal immigration and naturalization law throughout all U.S. states and territories.
Katya’s practice includes handling complex immigration matters such as USCIS and BIA appeals, waivers of inadmissibility, and applications under the LIFE Act. She has extensive experience with humanitarian programs, including U-visas for crime victims and VAWA petitions for survivors of domestic abuse. Her knowledge extends to advising criminal defense attorneys on the immigration implications of their clients’ cases, ensuring careful and informed counsel.
Katya continuously enhances her expertise through active participation in the American Immigration Lawyers Association and engagement with peers across the country. In 2018, she co-presented “Immigration Issues in Family Law” for the Smith County Family Law Bar Association, and in 2022, she delivered a presentation to the Smith County Bar Association addressing immigration aspects in foreign-born child adoptions.
Katya Banta remains a passionate advocate for immigrant communities, drawing on her own experience of immigrating from Russia to the United States.
