About
Kathy Jo Cook is a founding partner of Sheff & Cook and one of Massachusetts’ most accomplished personal injury litigators. With nearly 30 years of courtroom experience, she has built a career centered on representing individuals who have suffered serious injury, workplace injustice, or civil rights violations. Her practice includes wrongful death, catastrophic injury, and sexual misconduct cases.
Kathy earned her Juris Doctor from Suffolk University Law School in 1995, following her undergraduate degree from the University of Houston in 1992. A national trial advocacy champion and writing competition winner during law school, she quickly made a name for herself in plaintiffs’ litigation after joining Keches & Mallen, P.C., where she litigated high-stakes cases for over a decade.
Kathy’s legal work has shaped Massachusetts precedent. In Law v. Griffith, she secured a ruling enhancing plaintiffs’ ability to recover medical expenses. She also received a rare punitive award for engaging in bad-faith insurance practices. As founder of KJC Law Firm and now partner at Sheff & Cook, she has continued to deliver record-setting verdicts and settlements, including her work on the $143 million Columbia Gas settlement.
Kathy’s career is marked by recognition and leadership. She has been consistently selected to Super Lawyers, named one of the Top 50 Women Lawyers in Massachusetts, and inducted into the Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly Hall of Fame. She also holds an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell.
Kathy Jo Cook is President of the Massachusetts Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates and a past president of both the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys and the Women’s Bar Association. Known for her grit, heart, and pursuit of justice, Kathy Jo Cook remains a fierce advocate for individuals seeking fairness and accountability in the legal system.
