About

Kate Roth is an associate at Holland & Hart in Jackson, Wyoming, whose practice focuses on federal income taxation, tax controversy, and tax litigation. She represents businesses and individuals in audits, appeals, and litigation and helps clients navigate Internal Revenue Service examinations and appeals. Drawing on prior experience at the US Tax Court, she advises on federal tax planning and compliance issues while developing strategies for contested tax matters. Her work combines technical tax analysis with administrative and courtroom procedure.

Roth earned an LL.M. in Taxation with Distinction from Georgetown University Law Center in 2018 and was named to the Dean’s List. She received her J.D. from the University of Oregon School of Law in 2016, where she served as Managing Editor of the Oregon Law Review and Managing Director of the Moot Court Board. She earned a B.S. from Oregon State University in 2012, graduating cum laude. She is admitted in Wyoming, Oregon, and the US Tax Court.

Roth previously served as a judicial law clerk to Judge Kathleen Kerrigan of the US Tax Court, giving her firsthand insight into how federal tax disputes are evaluated and decided. Before joining Holland & Hart, she worked as a tax associate at Tonkon Torp LLP and as an associate at Grant Thornton, LLP. Her current practice applies that government, law-firm, and tax-advisory experience to IRS examinations, administrative appeals, litigation, tax planning, and compliance matters for businesses and individuals.

Kate Roth has been recognized by Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in America for Tax Law and by Oregon Super Lawyers as a Rising Star in Tax. She is active in professional tax organizations, including the Oregon State Bar Taxation Section and Portland Tax Forum. Her practice is well suited to clients who need one lawyer to understand the technical tax issue, the administrative process, and the litigation risks. She helps clients evaluate positions, respond to IRS scrutiny, and pursue efficient resolutions when disputes arise.
