Juan F. Vasquez, Jr. is a partner at Nelson Mullins and Chair of the firm’s Tax Controversy and Litigation practice group. He focuses his practice on federal, state, and local tax controversy matters, representing clients in examinations, administrative appeals, litigation, and appellate proceedings. With a career dedicated to complex tax disputes, he advocates for clients before the IRS, state tax agencies, and in courts nationwide, delivering strategic solutions to highly technical matters.
Juan earned his B.B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin’s McCombs School of Business in 1998. He continued his legal education at the University of Houston Law Center, receiving his J.D. in 2001, and further specialized in tax law by completing an LL.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law in 2002. This strong academic foundation allows Juan to navigate the intersection of tax law, policy, and litigation with precision and insight.
Admitted to practice in Texas, Juan is also licensed before numerous federal courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Tax Court, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, multiple U.S. Courts of Appeals, and several U.S. District Courts across Texas. His broad admissions reflect both the scope of his practice and his ability to advocate for clients in high-stakes disputes across jurisdictions.
