Joseph F. Cleveland, Jr. is a seasoned litigator with over 30 years of experience in commercial and intellectual property law. He has represented inventors, entrepreneurs, and major corporations in complex matters involving patents, trade secrets, antitrust, contracts, and employment disputes. His extensive trial and appellate work spans both federal and state courts nationwide.
Mr. Cleveland earned his B.A., cum laude, from Texas Christian University in 1987 and his J.D., with unique distinction, from Mississippi College School of Law in 1990. He is Board Certified in Civil Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization—an honor reflecting deep expertise and professional excellence attained by a select group of attorneys in Texas.
Joseph F. Cleveland, Jr. played a leading role in shaping modern Texas trade secret law. He drafted key trade secret legislation and frequently testified before the Texas Legislature, helping define how businesses protect proprietary information in Texas. Cleveland also spearheaded the development of the Texas Pattern Jury Charges for misappropriation of trade secrets—model instructions that are now widely relied on in courtrooms across the state. In recognition of his impactful leadership and lasting contributions, he received the prestigious Chair’s Award from the State Bar of Texas Intellectual Property Law Section.
