About
Jonathan P. Bach is a partner at Shapiro Arato Bach LLP and widely recognized as one of the nation’s top trial and white collar defense attorneys. With more than 30 years of litigation experience, Jonathan has represented prominent professionals, public officials, entertainers, and major organizations in high-profile criminal and civil cases in courts nationwide. His reputation as a skilled litigator is backed by decades of successful trial outcomes and pre-charge resolutions.
Jonathan earned his J.D. from Yale Law School in 1990, where he served as an editor of the Yale Law Journal. He also holds an M.Phil. from Yale Graduate School (1990) and a B.A., summa cum laude, from Yale College (1984), where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
Jonathan began his career at the Federal Public Defender’s Office in the Southern District of New York, where he tried numerous cases, achieving acquittals and hung jury outcomes. His criminal defense work spans trial and appellate courts, corporate internal investigations, grand jury proceedings, and regulatory inquiries. His civil litigation practice includes high-stakes matters involving financial fraud, trade secrets, civil rights, and international litigation.
One of Jonathan’s most notable accomplishments was the pro bono defense of David Lemus in a high-profile New York murder trial, which ended in acquittal. The defense not only exonerated Lemus but revealed the identity of the true perpetrator in court—an achievement hailed by The New York Times.
Jonathan P. Bach is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and a former President of the New York Council of Defense Lawyers. He is consistently ranked by Chambers USA, Best Lawyers in America, Lawdragon, and Legal 500. With admissions in New York and D.C., he remains a go-to advocate in white collar and complex litigation nationwide.
