Jonathan Heyl

Jonathan Heyl is a Charlotte litigation attorney and a partner at Fox Rothschild LLP who focuses on complex commercial disputes. He represents large and mid-market corporate, banking, professional, and insurance clients in state and federal courts, administrative proceedings, and arbitrations. His practice includes antitrust litigation and counseling, contract disputes, financial services litigation, fiduciary litigation involving trust administration, professional liability, and entertainment & sports law matters. He also serves as a certified mediator for disputes throughout North Carolina.

Heyl earned his J.D., with high honors, from the University of North Carolina School of Law. He earned his B.A., with honors, from East Carolina University. During law school, he served as Editor-in-Chief of the North Carolina Law Review and was elected to the Order of the Coif. His academic background supports a practice involving sophisticated legal questions, detailed written advocacy, and litigation across multiple industries, courts, and administrative forums.

Heyl has served as first-chair counsel in jury trials, bench trials, administrative proceedings, and arbitrations. His representative experience includes nationwide antitrust class actions, manufacturer-dealer disputes, financial services matters, trust litigation, securities claims, bankruptcy-related proceedings, and insurance disputes. He has represented clients in matters involving corporate financing, interest rate derivatives, rights of publicity, consumer claims, and fiduciary duties. His work combines courtroom advocacy with strategic evaluation of potential resolutions.

Jonathan Heyl is a former President of the North Carolina Bar Association and has held numerous leadership positions within the organization. He is a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America and American Bar Foundation. His recognitions include membership in Business North Carolina’s Legal Elite Hall of Fame for antitrust and listings in Chambers USA and Best Lawyers.
