Jonathan Causey

Jonathan Causey is the managing partner at Causey & Ye Law, P.L.L.C., recognized for his skill in civil litigation, criminal defense, and immigration representation. Licensed in Minnesota and Iowa, he appears in state, federal, and immigration courts nationwide. Selected to Super Lawyers Rising Stars from 2021–2024, he has also been named a Top 10 Under 40 Criminal Defense Attorney by the National Academy of Criminal Defense Attorneys.

Jonathan earned his BBA in banking and finance from Mississippi State University in 2004 and then went on to manage a successful insurance agency. He later graduated with honors from Mississippi College School of Law in 2014. His broad business and financial background strengthen his litigation strategy, especially in complex commercial disputes.

Jonathan’s practice includes personal injury, wrongful death, fraud and asset recovery, commercial real estate disputes, and high-profile criminal defense. He has secured millions of dollars in verdicts and settlements, including $1.35 million for a client struck by a dump truck, $7 million in a wrongful death and rideshare accident case, and $460,000 in a commercial judgment for a Chinese corporate client.

In criminal defense, Jonathan has achieved acquittals, dismissals, and property recoveries in cases involving firearms charges, human trafficking, white-collar crimes, and government seizures. His advocacy often extends to challenging multi-jurisdictional investigations and recovering assets wrongfully taken by authorities.

Jonathan also represents clients before immigration courts, winning asylum cases and defending against removal proceedings. Many of his cases involve international elements, including EB-5 investment visa disputes, cross-border family law matters, and multi-country commercial transactions.

Active in the legal community, Jonathan Causey serves on the Iowa Supreme Court Grievance Commission, is a barrister with the C. Edwin Moore Inns of Court, and is a former vice president of the Iowa Network Against Human Trafficking.
