Jolie Apicella

Jolie Apicella is a partner at Wiggin and Dana in New York, where she practices in the Litigation Department and Health Care Practice Group. Apicella co-leads the firm’s False Claims Act Defense and Compliance Practice Group. She represents clients in federal and internal investigations, health care oversight, regulatory compliance, alternative dispute resolution, and complex civil litigation involving civil rights, contract disputes, and related issues.

Apicella earned a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and a B.A., magna cum laude, in History and English from Mount Holyoke College. Her academic background supports her work in litigation, investigation, regulatory analysis, and advocacy. This training helps her evaluate complex facts, prepare clients for government scrutiny, and explain health care fraud and compliance issues with clear and practical judgment.

Apicella previously served for almost a decade as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Eastern District of New York, including as Chief of Healthcare Fraud. Her experience includes matters involving pharmaceutical companies, pharmacies, hospital systems, laboratories, physician practice groups, and individual providers. She also advises on the False Claims Act, Anti-Kickback Statute, Stark Law, Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, HIPAA, reimbursement appeals, audits, agency warning letters, and administrative sanctions.

Jolie Apicella is admitted in New York and New Jersey and has argued before the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. She teaches Advanced Legal Methods at New York Law School and is active in the American Health Law Association, Federal Bar Council, Women in Bio, and Women’s White Collar Defense Association.
