John R. Goodell

John R. Goodell is Of Counsel with Racine Olson, where he focuses his practice on estate planning as well as civil and commercial litigation. With more than 35 years of experience, he assists clients in preparing for the future through comprehensive estate and trust planning, while also representing individuals and businesses in disputes involving insurance defense, construction, employment, and real estate matters. His practice includes wrongful death, personal injury, property damage, coverage, bad faith, and trucking/FMCSA claims, giving him extensive experience across state and federal courts.

Mr. Goodell earned his B.A. from Georgetown University in 1977 and his J.D. from the Southern Illinois University School of Law in 1981. He was admitted to the Idaho Bar in 1982, the Wyoming Bar in 1992, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in 1985. For over three decades, he has actively practiced in both Idaho and Wyoming, handling complex estate planning and litigation matters at the trial and appellate levels.

In addition to representing clients, Mr. Goodell is a published legal author. He has written multiple articles for The Advocate, the official magazine of the Idaho State Bar, and authored a comprehensive treatise on Idaho lien law. His professional leadership includes serving in key roles within the Idaho State Bar’s Litigation, Real Estate, and Employment Sections, as well as with the Portneuf Inn of Court, where he served as president and on the executive committee.
