John J. Petriello is a Partner at Ehrlich, Petriello, Gudin, Plaza & Reed, Attorneys at Law, where he brings over 25 years of experience in commercial civil litigation and construction law. Licensed in both New Jersey and New York, John has represented clients in complex disputes before state and federal courts, including trial and appellate levels. His practice encompasses business litigation, commercial landlord-tenant issues, contract disputes, consumer fraud claims, and secured transactions, offering strategic and results-driven advocacy for his clients.
John earned his Bachelor of Arts degree with distinction in Sociology from Rutgers College, Rutgers State University in 1973, and his Juris Doctor from Rutgers School of Law–Camden in 1977. Following law school, he served as a Law Clerk to the Honorable Joseph Salerno of the Superior Court of New Jersey. Admitted to practice in New Jersey (1978) and New York (1980), he is also admitted to the U.S. District Courts for New Jersey and the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, as well as the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Second and Third Circuits.
A recognized authority in construction law, John represents suppliers, subcontractors, and contractors in disputes involving public and private construction projects. His work includes handling mechanics’ liens, construction lien claims, bond claims, Miller Act cases, and arbitration before the American Arbitration Association. He also serves as associated counsel with National Lien and Bond Claim Systems, a national network of construction lawyers.
John J. Petriello has been recognized by Super Lawyers from 2012 to 2018 for his excellence in commercial and construction litigation. A qualified R.1:40 court-approved mediator, he is also an active member of the New Jersey Bar Association, continuing to contribute his expertise to the legal and construction communities.
