John E. Baum serves as Of Counsel at Shapiro Sher Guinot & Sandler, where he counsels clients on a wide range of matters, including real estate, corporate transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and business succession planning. His clients span from closely held family businesses to publicly traded corporations with operations across the U.S. and offshore. Mr. Baum’s practice also includes contract and lease negotiations, providing comprehensive support to businesses at every stage of growth.

Mr. Baum earned both his B.A. and J.D. from Tulane University, completing his law degree in 1975 and serving on the Moot Court Board. He is admitted to practice in Maryland and Florida, as well as before the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland and the U.S. Tax Court.

In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Baum offers a real-world business perspective as President of Bakery Express Management Group, where he oversees operations at five manufacturing plants in Maryland, Florida, Texas, and California. This unique combination of executive and legal experience allows him to deliver C-suite–level insights, helping clients navigate both legal exposure and day-to-day operational challenges. Recent matters include advising on high-value business sales with complex cash, stock, and earn-out structures, as well as leading clients through multistate manufacturing expansions.

John E. Baum is active in professional and community organizations, including the Maryland State Bar Association, the Baltimore City Bar Association, and as a non-resident member of the Florida State Bar. He has lectured on corporate law topics and is a founding director of CASA of Baltimore. His leadership also extends to philanthropy, co-chairing events such as the HeBrOpen Golf Outing, which raised over $100,000 for the SEED School of Maryland. Mr. Baum offers clients a rare combination of legal expertise and entrepreneurial acumen.
