About
John D. Maxwell is a senior partner with Brown Paindiris & Scott, LLP and has practiced Connecticut law for more than four decades. His work includes criminal defense, personal injury litigation, medical malpractice, workers’ compensation, and wrongful death matters. He has been with the firm since 1979 and represents clients in serious criminal and civil cases. His practice is grounded in trial work, case preparation, and the evaluation of evidence, damages, and legal defenses.
Maxwell earned a J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law in 1979. He previously received a B.A. from Upsala College in 1974. His legal education led directly into a long litigation career in Connecticut. Over time, he developed experience across criminal cases, injury claims, medical negligence matters, and workers’ compensation disputes, fields that require different procedural knowledge but share a need for careful factual investigation, persuasive advocacy, and preparation for contested hearings or trial.
Maxwell has defended criminal cases involving homicide, sexual assault, child pornography, drug conspiracies, DWI, and other serious charges. His civil practice has included catastrophic injury and wrongful death cases, medical malpractice, and workers’ compensation claims. He co-authored Defending DWI Cases in Connecticut, published by Atlantic Law Book in 2007, and has spoken on workers’ compensation issues. These activities reflect experience with criminal procedure and complex civil injury matters.
John D. Maxwell continues to represent clients in litigation where the legal and personal stakes can be substantial. His decades of practice provide experience with criminal trials, injury litigation, compensation claims, negotiation, and written and oral advocacy. Professional recognition listed by the firm includes past selection to Connecticut Super Lawyers. His practice remains focused on preparing cases carefully, testing evidence, and helping clients navigate criminal charges, serious injuries, and other contested legal claims.
