About

Jim Anderson is a Menlo Park commercial real estate attorney who represents developers, property owners, investors, lenders, technology companies, and other businesses in significant property transactions. His work includes acquisitions, leases, development, financing, and joint ventures. Jim advises clients on real estate projects that involve multiple parties, large assets, and long-term commercial obligations. He spent more than three decades at an international law practice before joining a Menlo Park real estate team, including 24 years as a partner.

Jim studied quantitative economics at Stanford University and later earned his law degree, cum laude, from Indiana University’s Maurer School of Law. His educational background combined economic analysis with the legal training needed for business transactions and property negotiations. The quantitative aspects of his undergraduate studies are relevant to financing terms, valuation, and the financial structure of real estate projects. His law school honors reflect strong academic performance before a career focused on complex commercial deals.

Jim has represented master developers of large residential projects and parties leasing corporate campuses, including both landlords and tenants. His matters include acquisitions of corporate facilities and unusual properties, such as a large island with more than 3,000 residents. He also handles data center leases, loans secured by real property, and development or investment joint ventures. Earlier in his career, Jim chaired the real estate group at Gray Cary Ware & Freidenrich before that practice became part of DLA Piper.

Jim Anderson has received recognition for real estate law from Chambers and Partners and has been named among Northern California’s Top 100 Super Lawyers. He also serves as a board member and treasurer for the Ecumenical Hunger Program in East Palo Alto. His career combines leadership in a large law firm’s real estate practice with work on varied property transactions. Jim helps clients evaluate deal structure, allocation of risk, and the practical steps necessary to complete complex development and investment objectives.
