Jesse L. Young

Jesse L. Young is a senior shareholder at Sommers Schwartz, P.C., and a nationally recognized employment law attorney. He represents workers in complex wage-and-hour disputes, unpaid wage and overtime cases, and class action litigation across the country. Throughout his career, he has fought for employees facing discrimination, retaliation, wrongful termination, and wage theft. Jesse helps both individuals and groups understand their rights and recover what they are owed.

Jesse earned his J.D., cum laude, from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School, where he served as a member of the Cooley Law Review. He also holds a B.A. from Western Michigan University.

A respected voice in labor law, Jesse is a founding member of the firm’s national wage-and-hour practice. He has appeared in hundreds of lawsuits and arbitrations involving the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and state labor laws. His cases involve employee misclassification, “off-the-clock” work, tip pooling, breaks, and other workplace violations.

Jesse is a chapter editor of the ABA’s leading FLSA treatise The Fair Labor Standards Act and is a frequent speaker for the Institute of Continuing Legal Education and national legal organizations. He has briefed and argued cases in state and federal courts, including the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court.
