Jerry Daniel Herrera

Jerry Daniel Herrera is an Albuquerque criminal defense attorney at the Law Offices of JD Herrera, who has practiced law since 1978. His work focuses primarily on criminal defense, including homicide, violent crimes, drug offenses, white-collar matters, property crimes, DWI, and complex federal cases. He also handles aviation law, personal injury, and film and television law. He has represented clients in state and federal courts and brings decades of trial experience to serious criminal matters involving significant legal and personal consequences throughout New Mexico today statewide.

Mr. Herrera earned his J.D. from the University of New Mexico, and his B.A. from the University of New Mexico. His undergraduate studies included broadcast journalism and film and television, supporting his later work in entertainment-related legal matters. After law school, he entered public service as a prosecutor. His education and early courtroom experience provided a strong foundation for a career centered on trial advocacy, criminal litigation, and representation in complex state and federal cases across New Mexico.

Mr. Herrera began his career as an Assistant District Attorney in Albuquerque and later served as an Assistant District Attorney and Special Prosecutor in Santa Fe for New Mexico Penitentiary riot homicide cases. He also worked as an Albuquerque Assistant City Attorney, defending civil lawsuits filed against the city. In private practice since 1985, he has defended matters ranging from homicide and RICO actions to drug and white-collar offenses, including four federal death penalty homicide cases successfully over his career statewide.

Jerry Daniel Herrera has been recognized as a criminal trial specialist by the New Mexico Board of Legal Specialization since 1991 and has served in leadership roles involving criminal trial specialization. His professional memberships include the US Supreme Court Bar, New Mexico Supreme Court Bar, federal appellate courts, Federal Bar of New Mexico, Lawyer-Pilots Bar, and New Mexico Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. A private pilot since 1972, he brings firsthand aviation knowledge to his aviation law practice for clients across New Mexico.
