Johnna Walker

Johnna Walker is an attorney and of counsel at Peake Law Firm, where she focuses on criminal defense law across New Mexico. She brings more than a decade of criminal litigation experience and has tried over 75 cases to verdict, including nationally televised trials. Her background includes homicide, officer-involved shootings, crimes against children, serious felonies, and DUI matters. Johnna now uses her prosecutorial experience to evaluate evidence, identify weaknesses, and build informed defense strategies for clients facing serious criminal charges statewide today.

Johnna earned her J.D., with honors, from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 2015 and her B.A. from the University of New Mexico in 2010. Before becoming an attorney, she spent nine years working as a paralegal in Nevada, gaining experience with criminal cases from investigation through verdict. Her academic training and early legal work prepared her for a career centered on courtroom advocacy, evidence analysis, trial preparation, and complex criminal litigation in New Mexico.

Johnna began her legal career as a prosecutor in New Mexico’s Second Judicial District Attorney’s Office. She later served as Deputy General Counsel for the New Mexico Department of Corrections and as a Senior Trial Attorney in the Thirteenth Judicial District Attorney’s Office. She was subsequently appointed Deputy Director at the New Mexico Attorney General’s Office, where she handled high-profile matters involving extensive investigations, multi-agency coordination, and significant public attention across the state during complex criminal prosecutions and government matters.

Johnna Walker has extensive experience working with expert witnesses in DNA analysis, latent fingerprint identification, crime scene reconstruction, firearm and toolmark examination, and computer forensics. Her trial background allows her to challenge technical evidence and explain complex issues before judges and juries. In 2025, after years of public service, she transitioned to private criminal defense. Johnna is admitted to the State Bar of New Mexico and provides representation informed by firsthand knowledge of how criminal cases are investigated, charged, and tried.
