Jeffrey D. Bears

Jeffrey D. Bears is the Principal and Founder of JDBears Law, LLC, and a Boston business and technology attorney with more than twelve years of experience across law firms, for-profit companies, nonprofit organizations, and academic institutions. His practice focuses on technology transactions, commercial agreements, industry collaborations, strategic transactions, academic and university transactions, business and commercial law, intellectual property diligence and strategy, licensing, and outside general counsel work. He advises clients on protecting innovation while supporting practical business growth and long-term commercial goals.

Jeffrey earned a J.D. from Boston College Law School, where he served as a Staff Editor and Articles Editor for the Intellectual Property and Technology Journal and as Symposium Co-Chair for the Intellectual Property and Technology Forum. He also holds an M.S. in Biotechnology from Johns Hopkins University, an M.S. in Genetics from Yale University, an M.S. in Biostatistics from Harvard University, and a B.A. in Mathematics, magna cum laude with honors and distinction in mathematics, from Colby College.

Jeffrey advises clients on technology and intellectual property transactions, licensing arrangements, commercial contracts, university collaborations, and strategic business deals. His background in biotechnology, genetics, biostatistics, and mathematics gives him technical depth when working with life sciences and technology-focused clients. He also serves as a subject matter expert in life sciences legal transactions for Lexis Practice Advisor, developing agreements, templates, practice guidance, and other materials used by law firms and in-house counsel. His work often bridges legal, scientific, and business considerations.

Jeffrey D. Bears is admitted in Massachusetts and the District of Columbia and before the US Supreme Court, US Courts of Appeals for the First and Federal Circuits, US District Court for the District of Massachusetts, and US Patent and Trademark Office. His professional service has included mentoring through Harvard University’s Initiative for Learning and Teaching, serving on the Bishop Feehan High School President’s Advisory Board, and serving on the Young Entrepreneurs Network board. He also teaches mathematics at Northeastern University, Wentworth Institute of Technology, and Southern New Hampshire University.
