Jeff Preptit is a Tennessee attorney whose practice at Herzfeld, Suetholz, Gastel, Leniski and Wall, PLLC focuses on civil rights law, antitrust, class actions, and mass torts. He has experience litigating criminal defense, civil rights, and general litigation matters in state and federal courts. He previously spent three years with the Nashville Public Defender and two years as a staff attorney for the ACLU of Tennessee. His work has included constitutional disputes, discrimination claims, and other significant civil rights cases.
Jeff earned his J.D. from Lincoln Memorial University and his B.A. in Political Science from Milligan College. Before law school, he worked as an open-source intelligence analyst with the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism. During law school, he helped create the Charlotte Community Coalition and the Heal Charlotte Initiative. His education and early professional work provided a foundation for his litigation and public-interest practice.
Jeff has worked on cases involving constitutional rights, government policies, discrimination, and federal statutory protections. His experience includes litigation challenging restrictions on free speech and government actions affecting protected groups. He has handled matters in the U.S. District Courts for the Middle and Western Districts of Tennessee. He is admitted in Tennessee and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
Jeff Preptit combines litigation experience with active participation in Tennessee’s legal community. His professional affiliations include the Tennessee Bar Association, Tennessee Trial Lawyers Association, Tennessee Alliance for Black Attorneys, and Napier-Looby Bar Association. He is affiliated with the NAACP and serves as a council member on the Metropolitan County Council of Nashville and Davidson County. His practice continues to center on civil rights and complex litigation.
