Jason W. Burgmaier

Jason W. Burgmaier is a partner at Seager Tufte Wickhem LLP and a registered patent attorney based in the firm’s Minneapolis, Minnesota office. He focuses his practice on strategic development and management of patent portfolios, including the preparation and prosecution of U.S. and international patent applications in the intellectual property field. His legal counsel spans the mechanical and electrical arts, with substantial experience in the medical device sector. Jason also advises clients on freedom-to-operate, infringement, validity, and due diligence investigations, helping businesses assess legal risks and protect innovations.

Jason earned his J.D. with distinction from The University of Iowa College of Law. He holds a B.S., with honors, in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering from Iowa State University. His background in engineering equips him to understand complex inventions and provide practical legal solutions.

Before joining Seager Tufte Wickhem LLP in 2004, Jason was actively involved in his family’s farming operation, and he remains engaged in agriculture today. His firsthand experience gives him unique insights into evolving agricultural technologies, including machinery design, grain handling, livestock systems, and precision farming using GPS-based solutions.

Jason combines deep experience in intellectual property law with a background in agricultural engineering, making him a strategic partner for innovators in a wide range of industries. Jason is licensed to practice in Minnesota and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
