About
Jason G. Benzaken is a criminal defense attorney whose practice centers on high-stakes litigation, appeals, and civil rights matters. He represents clients in complex criminal cases throughout Massachusetts, combining trial experience with deep knowledge of post-conviction and appellate advocacy in both state and federal courts.
Jason earned his legal education at Northeastern University School of Law after relocating to Boston. His academic training emphasized practical advocacy and public service, providing a strong foundation for courtroom litigation and long-term involvement in criminal defense work across Massachusetts.
After graduating, Jason began his career as a staff attorney with the Committee for Public Counsel Services in the Brockton office. In that role, he represented indigent defendants in Superior Court, gaining extensive trial experience and a firsthand understanding of the criminal justice system from the defense perspective.
In 2006, Jason transitioned to private practice, focusing on criminal appeals and post-conviction litigation. He later co-founded Benzaken and Wood, LLP with another former CPCS attorney, continuing his commitment to defending individuals facing serious criminal consequences through strategic litigation and advocacy.
Jason remains actively involved in the indigent defense system in Massachusetts. Since 2011, he has served as the Supervising Attorney for the bar advocate program in Plymouth County, overseeing defense representation and supporting attorneys handling court-appointed criminal cases.
Jason G. Benzaken focuses his current practice on criminal defense, appeals, and civil rights litigation. He is admitted to practice in Massachusetts, the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and regularly handles serious felony and federal criminal cases.
