James Carlberg

James Carlberg is a seasoned attorney at Bose McKinney & Evans LLP in Indianapolis, Indiana. He is part of the firm’s Bankruptcy and Creditors’ Rights Group and has been helping clients solve financial and lending issues since 1974. Jim represents both creditors and borrowers, using his deep knowledge of financial law to protect their interests in complex matters.

Jim earned his J.D., cum laude, from the Indiana University Maurer School of Law in 1974. He also holds a B.S. from Indiana University’s School of Business, graduating with the highest distinction in 1972. He is licensed to practice in Indiana, including the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana.

Jim works with commercial banks, savings and loans, life insurance companies, and agricultural lenders to resolve problem loans, restructure debt, and stay compliant with both state and federal regulations. He also helps businesses experiencing financial stress with bankruptcy, foreclosure, and collection proceedings.

Jim is recognized as a leader in his field. Jim has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America® (2011–2025) and Indiana Super Lawyers® (2010–2024) in Bankruptcy & Creditor/Debtor Rights. He also received the title of Best Lawyers® 2010 Indianapolis Banking Lawyer of the Year and holds an AV® Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the highest peer-review rating available.

Jim is active in the legal community as a Distinguished Fellow of the Indianapolis Bar Foundation and Chair of the Indiana State Bar Association’s Creditors’ Rights and Bankruptcy Section. He’s also a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, Commercial Law League of America, and the U.S. Department of Justice Chapter 11 Task Force.

In addition to practicing law, Jim has given many presentations and written extensively on bankruptcy and lending topics for legal and banking groups across Indiana.
