James C. Bocott focuses his legal practice on bankruptcy, family law, civil litigation, workers’ compensation, medical malpractice, and serious injury claims. James earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Nebraska College of Law in 1997. During law school, he was a member of the college’s National Trial Team, where he developed courtroom and litigation skills. His legal education created a strong foundation for handling complex disputes involving injury claims, family law issues, and bankruptcy matters throughout his career.
James began practicing law immediately after graduation, handling criminal, divorce, and personal injury matters as an associate attorney in North Platte, Nebraska. Later, he joined McCarthy Moore & Hall, eventually becoming a Partner. From 2001 through 2004, he also served as the Chase County, Nebraska, Attorney, representing the county in criminal and civil matters.
James regularly attends continuing legal education seminars, workshops, and trial colleges to strengthen his litigation abilities and trial preparation techniques. Since 2017, he has attended programs through the Keenan Trial Institute in Atlanta, Georgia. He also conducts focus groups throughout Nebraska to improve case presentation strategies and better understand how juries respond to legal arguments.
James has also dedicated significant effort toward family law matters involving shared parenting. Since 2014, he has spoken at legal and mental health seminars, testified before the Nebraska Unicameral, and worked with committees connected to the Nebraska State Bar Association and Nebraska Supreme Court. His work supports parenting arrangements focused on meaningful involvement from both capable parents.
