James B. Wood

James B. “Jimmy” Wood is a dedicated attorney leading the Business Immigration Law Team. He assists employers and foreign employees secure U.S. immigration benefits, including nonimmigrant visas, employment-based green cards, and labor certification applications. With extensive experience in immigration law, he develops strategies that align with regulatory requirements while meeting business workforce needs.

Jimmy earned his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Richmond School of Law in 2013. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Government, magna cum laude, from Hampden-Sydney College, where he received the James Madison Award for Distinction in the Government Major. His strong legal education and background in government studies provide him with a deep understanding of complex immigration laws and policies.

Before practicing law, Jimmy gained valuable experience working for the U.S. Department of State in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, where he assisted U.S. Consular Officers with visa adjudications. While in law school, he worked in the immigration practice group of a Richmond law firm, handling a variety of business immigration matters, including H-1B and L-1 visas, as well as employment-based green cards. He also worked directly with U.S. government agencies, including U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Admitted to the Supreme Court of Virginia, Jimmy represents businesses in employment-based immigration cases and provides legal counsel on workforce-related matters. He advises property owners and managers on issues with fair housing and public accommodation. Recognized for his expertise, he has been named to Virginia’s Legal Elite and Super Lawyers Rising Star in business immigration law.

Jimmy is an active member of the Virginia State Bar, Virginia Beach Bar Association, and the American Immigration Lawyers Association. His leadership and knowledge of immigration law allow him to provide strategic solutions for businesses and individuals seeking U.S. immigration benefits.
