About

J. Robert Vanhemelrijck is a trusted legal advocate with deep experience in bankruptcy law. He has filed more than 3,500 consumer and small business bankruptcy cases in the Western District of Texas, San Antonio Division. His work spans across issues like foreclosure, repossession, credit card debt, and tax-related bankruptcies.

Robert began his academic journey at Texas State University in San Marcos, where he earned a B.A. in Political Science with a minor in Business Administration. Graduating summa cum laude, he later pursued his Juris Doctor at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. There, he received the “Excellence for the Future Award” for academic performance.

Before his current leadership role, Robert worked for Koffel and Jump, Attorneys. While there, he handled mortgage and lien avoidance cases and offered litigation support for bankruptcy and tax matters. He also assisted federal judges by helping draft legal decisions in both the Southern District of Texas and the Southern District of Ohio.

Robert has contributed to professional legal education by helping develop three Continuing Legal Education (CLE) presentations. These focused on key topics like the 2005 Bankruptcy Code changes, the automatic stay process, and consumer vehicle loan treatment in Chapter 13 cases.

Robert is a member of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys, the State Bar of Texas, the American Bar Association, and the Federal Bar Association. These affiliations reflect his commitment to ethical standards and legal excellence.

Fluent in Spanish, J. Robert Vanhemelrijck has supported his community by volunteering with the Political Asylum Project in Austin.
