About

Iris Eytan is a nationally recognized criminal defense attorney who has spent nearly 30 years advocating for justice in the legal system. She has represented thousands of clients, earning numerous acquittals in high-profile murder trials. Her bold courtroom strategies and fearless litigation have made a lasting impact on criminal justice reform.

Iris began her academic journey at the University of Arizona, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, graduating Cum Laude in 1991. She then pursued her legal education at the University of San Diego School of Law, where she earned her Juris Doctor in 1994. This strong academic foundation supported her passion for civil rights and legal defense.

Iris started her legal career as a Deputy State Public Defender, gaining hands-on experience in criminal litigation and systemic injustice. She later practiced at two major Colorado law firms, where she deepened her focus on civil rights and criminal defense. Iris dedicated substantial time to pro bono work, spearheading a decade-long legal battle that led to a federal consent decree protecting people with mental illness held in jail.

Iris has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America, Best Law Firms in America, and 5280 Magazine for her outstanding legal contributions. She was also featured on the cover of Colorado Super Lawyers Magazine, highlighting her influence and dedication to justice. Her efforts have been pivotal in reshaping criminal defense standards across the country.

Iris Eytan was lead counsel in the People v. Barry Morphew case, where she exposed serious prosecutorial misconduct that resulted in the dismissal of charges. The outcome led to significant disciplinary action against several prosecutors. After this case, Iris shifted her focus from direct legal defense to founding PEP, aiming to end prosecutorial abuse through systemic reform.
