About

S. Luke Largess is a seasoned trial and appellate attorney with a practice focused on civil rights, employment law, medical negligence, and personal injury. He joined Tin Fulton Walker & Owen in 2009 after nearly two decades at Ferguson Stein Chambers Gresham & Sumter. Over the course of his career, he has built a reputation for advocating for justice in high-profile constitutional and employment cases, including police misconduct, education disputes, and labor-related litigation.

Mr. Largess earned his J.D. from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 1990, where he was inducted into the Davis Honor Society and the Order of the Golden Fleece. He completed his B.A. at Duke University in 1979, graduating cum laude.

Mr. Largess has tried and argued cases in both state and federal courts throughout North Carolina. His landmark work includes representing black families in Belk v. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education, a continuation of the historic Swann desegregation litigation. In employment law, he has secured significant jury verdicts in retaliation and defamation cases and achieved notable settlements in medical malpractice and civil rights claims.

Mr. Largess was a lead attorney in General Synod of the United Church of Christ v. Reisinger, a case that overturned North Carolina’s ban on same-sex marriage. He also achieved a $1.1 million jury verdict for a teacher whose due process rights were violated by false allegations.

S. Luke Largess is admitted to practice in all North Carolina federal district courts and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. His honors include listings in Best Lawyers in America, Super Lawyers, and Business North Carolina’s Legal Elite. He also received the ACLU of Charlotte’s Richard L. Hester Civil Liberties Award.
