Gregory M. Howison

Gregory M. Howison is a partner in the intellectual property practice at Munck Wilson Mandala in Dallas, Texas. He advises technology companies and other businesses on patent protection, portfolio management, and intellectual property strategy. His work includes patent applications, inter partes reviews, IP audits, infringement opinions, and due diligence. He handles matters involving software, telecommunications, semiconductors, medical devices, biotechnology, and developing technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Howison earned his J.D. from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law in 1981 and a B.E.E. from the Catholic University of America in 1971. Before entering law practice, he worked for more than nine years as a design engineer with companies including Westinghouse, Texas Instruments, and Rockwell. His engineering background supports his ability to evaluate technical inventions and advise businesses on complex patent and technology matters.

Howison founded the intellectual property firm Howison & Arnott LLP in 1999 and joined Munck Wilson Mandala in 2017. His experience includes preparing more than 1,000 patents, according to a firm announcement, and leading proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. He advises on standard essential patents, portfolio development, and strategies for protecting inventions. These matters draw on decades of experience working with engineers, innovators, and businesses in technical industries.
