Geoffrey Hand is a partner at SRH Law in Burlington, Vermont. His practice focuses on energy and environmental law, real estate and land use litigation, municipal law, and general civil litigation. Geoffrey represents public utilities, independent power producers, developers, landowners, municipal entities, and environmental organizations in regulatory, permitting, and court proceedings. He helps clients develop practical strategies for complex projects and disputes that involve multiple legal, technical, and public-policy considerations.
Geoffrey earned a B.A. in Biology and Neuroscience from Wesleyan University and a J.D./Master of Studies in Environmental Law from Vermont Law School, graduating summa cum laude. His background in science, environmental law, communications, and advocacy supports his work on technical regulatory and permitting matters. He is admitted to practice in Vermont, the U.S. District Court for the District of Vermont, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
Geoffrey regularly represents utilities before the Vermont Public Utility Commission in rate-making and other regulatory proceedings. His experience includes permitting wind and solar energy projects, handling utility interconnection issues, and advising on energy infrastructure development. He has also litigated matters involving NEPA reviews, wetlands, stormwater permits, endangered species, Act 250 proceedings, zoning disputes, and climate change issues. His appellate work includes matters before the Vermont Supreme Court and federal courts.
Geoffrey Hand joined SRH Law in 2003 and became a partner in 2009. He has received the Vermont Business Magazine 40 Under 40 Rising Star recognition and Vermont Law School’s Maximilian Kempner Award. Geoffrey has also served on several community and environmental boards, including the City of Burlington Development Review Board and Vermont Environmental Consortium. His combination of litigation, regulatory, and scientific experience helps clients navigate complex environmental, energy, land use, and municipal matters with practical legal guidance.
