About
Gary Goldberg has built a respected reputation as a trial lawyer who passionately advocates for individuals facing complex legal challenges. Known for his ability to simplify cases for jurors, he has secured strong results in personal injury, medical malpractice, and consumer litigation. His courtroom skill and mediation work highlight his commitment to achieving justice.
Gary earned his B.A. magna cum laude from Hofstra New College in 1968 before pursuing his legal education at Columbia Law School, where he graduated with a J.D. in 1973. While at Columbia, he distinguished himself as a Kent Scholar, Stone Scholar, and member of the Columbia Law Review. He was admitted to the Maine Bar in 1974, beginning a career that has combined advocacy with teaching and mentorship.
Gary’s career reflects resilience and dedication. After establishing himself as one of Maine’s most respected plaintiff’s attorneys in the 1970s and 1980s, he briefly stepped away due to health challenges. Returning with renewed purpose, he reentered trial practice and mediation, achieving notable verdicts, including a $750,000 award in a complex case that other attorneys declined to pursue.
Gary has also been committed to legal education, running Continuing Legal Education programs and teaching trial practice at the University of Maine School of Law. His seminars, aimed at firms of all sizes, emphasize practical skills and the importance of speaking with clarity and authenticity, a method he calls “de-lawyering.” Many attorneys turn to him for last-minute trial guidance.
Gary Goldberg continues to balance litigation, teaching, and community service, always working to support clients, educate peers, and make a lasting difference. Gary’s contributions extend beyond the courtroom. He initiated a major health and clean water project in Cameroon through Save the Children, significantly reducing infant mortality rates. He has also served on the board of Furniture Friends, helping immigrant families obtain essential furnishings. His professional reputation is reinforced by his “AV Preeminent” rating from Martindale-Hubbell, a recognition of both legal skill and ethical standards.
