About

Eric C. Nelson is a seasoned Minnesota family law attorney with over 25 years of exclusive experience in the field. Since opening his practice in 1996, Eric has focused solely on family law, offering legal services in divorce, custody, visitation, spousal maintenance, child support, and post-decree modifications. His practice is known for delivering honest counsel, prompt communication, and strong advocacy both in and out of court.

Eric graduated magna cum laude from Macalester College in 1990. He went on to receive his J.D. from the University of Minnesota in 1994.

After law school, Eric served as a judicial clerk for the Honorable Lois J. Lang in the Minnesota District Court. There, he gained firsthand experience drafting divorce decrees, legal orders, and memos across a wide range of family law topics, including custody, property valuation, spousal maintenance, and domestic abuse. This early work laid the groundwork for his deep knowledge of family law.

Eric founded his own firm in 1996 and has since successfully resolved hundreds of cases involving contested and uncontested divorces, custody disputes, out-of-state moves, and more. His clients often commend his clear communication, attention to detail, and ability to achieve practical and fair outcomes.

Eric C. Nelson is admitted to all courts in the State of Minnesota and the U.S. Supreme Court. He is an active member of the Family Law Sections of both the Hennepin County and Minnesota State Bar Associations, and also belongs to the Lawyers’ Guild of St. Thomas More. Eric brings focus, integrity, and unmatched dedication to family law clients throughout Minnesota.
