About

Emily A. Arvizu is a dynamic associate at Perkins Thompson, focusing on complex litigation issues, including constitutional rights within the intertidal zone and local minimum wage laws. Since joining the firm in 2020, she has become a key member of the Litigation practice group and has expanded her expertise to immigration law, helping individuals secure and maintain U.S. status through employment-based petitions.

Emily holds a Juris Doctor summa cum laude from the University of Maine School of Law, obtained in 2020, and a Bachelor of Arts from Boston College, completed in 2006. Her academic pursuits at Maine Law included significant practical experience as a student attorney in the Refugee and Human Rights Clinic and legislative advocacy that led to the passage of laws benefiting special immigrant juveniles in Maine. She also contributed to the academic community as an editor of the Maine Law Review and co-authored an article on the ineffective assistance of counsel for non-citizen defendants, which was published in The Harvard Latin American Law Review.

Before entering the legal field, Emily A. Arvizu dedicated ten years to education, serving as a bilingual teacher and the director of an English language learning program in Chicago. This background in education not only showcases her commitment to community service but also provides her with a robust foundation for her legal practice. Emily’s move back to Maine was driven by a desire to be closer to family and to utilize her extensive skills in both education and law to serve her local community.
