E. Scott Johnson

E. Scott Johnson is Senior Counsel at Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC in Baltimore and a veteran intellectual property attorney with a career spanning more than 30 years. A member of the firm’s Intellectual Property Group, Mr. Johnson represents clients in trademark, copyright, licensing, technology, and media law matters. He works with individuals, companies, nonprofits, and educational institutions to protect creative and digital assets while navigating complex legal landscapes.

Mr. Johnson earned his B.A., summa cum laude, from the University of Maryland in 1985 and received his J.D., cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center in 1988. While at Georgetown, he won First Prize in the 1987 Nathan Burkan Copyright Competition and contributed to the Journal of Law & Technology, reflecting his long-standing focus on innovation and creative industries.

Throughout his career, Mr. Johnson has advised clients on a wide range of legal topics, including advertising compliance, software licensing, and internet-related agreements. His practice also includes joint ventures, R&D contracts, and technology commercialization. He has extensive experience in the entertainment sector, where he drafts and negotiates film and television production deals, music licensing contracts, book publishing agreements, and rights clearances. He is known for helping artists, producers, and companies manage their intellectual property in the evolving digital and media landscape.

E. Scott Johnson is admitted to practice in Maryland and the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland. He is frequently recognized by national and local publications for his IP law expertise. A dedicated supporter of the arts, he has served as chair of the Maryland State Arts Council and is a long-time voting member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.
