About
Durward Parkinson serves Of Counsel at Bergen Parkinson and has practiced law for more than 40 years. His work spans alternative dispute resolution, municipal, land use and government relations, and real estate and business matters. He has represented municipalities, state divisions, real estate developers, lenders, nonprofit organizations, and individuals in complex litigation and administrative proceedings. His practice combines dispute management with practical guidance on public and private legal issues.
Durward earned a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1982 and an A.B. from Brown University in 1979. That academic background preceded a long practice involving litigation, administrative matters, real estate, municipal issues, and dispute resolution. His legal training supports his work evaluating complicated records, legal positions, and competing interests while helping parties and clients address matters that require careful analysis and structured decision making.
Durward has handled high-conflict matters involving business, real estate, municipal and land use issues, employment, and complex family disputes. His alternative dispute resolution work includes mediation, arbitration, and meeting facilitation. He also has represented governmental and private clients in significant civil and administrative matters. Earlier in his career, he was a shareholder with Bernstein Shur and later became a founding member of Bergen & Parkinson, LLC when the firm was established in 1998.
Durward Parkinson is a member of the National Association of Distinguished Neutrals, the American Arbitration Association, and the York County Bar Association. His background as a litigator, trainer, mediator, and arbitrator gives him experience with disputes from several perspectives. He focuses on helping parties evaluate risk, communicate through difficult issues, and pursue workable resolutions in matters involving businesses, public entities, real estate interests, and other complex legal relationships.
