Douglas H. Kossler

Douglas H. Kossler has built a distinguished career in criminal and appellate law, drawing on more than two decades of legal experience. His work includes significant time as an appellate attorney, where he handled hundreds of cases and contributed to over 140 appellate decisions in Alaska. His background also extends to serving as both a district court judge and an appellate court judge, roles that sharpened his ability to analyze, write, and argue effectively in complex legal matters.

Douglas began his academic path at the College of William & Mary, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1989. He later completed his legal education at Temple University School of Law in Philadelphia, graduating magna cum laude with his Juris Doctor in 1994. This strong academic foundation helped him develop the skills necessary to address intricate trial and appellate issues in both criminal and civil courts.

Douglas is also deeply involved in legal education and community outreach. He spent more than a decade serving with Anchorage Youth Court and continues to shape the next generation of legal professionals through his work on the UAA Paralegal Studies Advisory Committee and the UAA Legal Studies Advisory Committee. As an active member of the Alaska Bar Law-Related Education Committee, he helps develop and support legal education programs that improve public understanding of the law and the justice system.
