David W. Holt

David W. Holt is a partner at Loftin Holt Hall Hargett LLP, where he represents businesses and individuals in complex litigation and intellectual property protection. His practice spans shareholder disputes, real estate conflicts, contract matters, and intellectual property litigation, including patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret cases. Licensed in Alabama, Tennessee, and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, he has appeared in state and federal courts across Alabama and throughout the United States.

Holt earned his B.S., summa cum laude, in Chemical Engineering from the University of Alabama, where he was a member of the Computer Based Honors Program and several engineering honor societies. He continued at Alabama to complete his M.S. in Chemical Engineering before pursuing his J.D., summa cum laude, at the University of Alabama School of Law. There, he served as Editor in Chief of the Alabama Law Review, was named a Hugo Black Scholar, and was inducted into the Order of the Coif.

As a registered U.S. Patent Attorney, Holt helps clients strategically identify, protect, and enforce their intellectual property rights. He provides full-service IP counseling, including patent prosecution, trademark registration, copyright protection, trade secret strategy, and technology-related IP issues. With a dual background in chemical engineering and law, Holt combines deep technical knowledge with legal experience, making him highly effective in complex IP litigation, patent portfolio management, and high-stakes intellectual property disputes.

David W. Holt is active in professional and community leadership. He serves as President of the Huntsville Bar Association for 2024–2025, has held leadership roles with the Madison County Volunteer Lawyers Program, and contributes to advisory boards at the University of Alabama.
