David T. McKenzie

David T. McKenzie is an Oklahoma criminal defense lawyer with 38 years of experience representing clients in serious criminal matters. He has practiced criminal law almost exclusively since 1988 and has appeared in courts in Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, and California. His clients have included judges, prosecutors, federal and state law enforcement officers, and other attorneys. David handles demanding cases requiring extensive trial preparation, strategic judgment, and courtroom advocacy.

David earned his J.D. from the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 1988. He received an M.S. in Criminal Justice and an M.A. in American Studies from Northeastern Oklahoma State University. He earned his B.A. in Political Science from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. He is admitted in Oklahoma and several federal courts, including the Tenth Circuit and the US Supreme Court.

David has tried approximately 300 jury trials during his career. His work has centered on criminal defense in state and federal courts, including cases involving public officials, lawyers, law enforcement personnel, and other professionals. He has taught as an adjunct professor at Oklahoma City University School of Law and has presented hundreds of hours of continuing legal education. He has written articles for the Oklahoma Bar Journal.

David T. McKenzie has received multiple honors for criminal defense, trial advocacy, legal writing, and professional education. His awards include the Clarence Darrow Award, Professional Advocate Award, Barry Albert Award, Golden Quill Award, and Earl Sneed Award. In 2026, he received the Lord Thomas Erskine Award for lifetime achievement in criminal defense. David has served on the Oklahoma Bar Association Board of Governors and currently serves as a Special Judge in Oklahoma City Municipal Court.
