David S. Bloomfield, Jr. is a Columbus trial lawyer and a partner at Porter Wright Morris & Arthur LLP, with broad experience in business competition, intellectual property law, probate, trust, guardianship, health care, and financial services litigation. He has tried cases in state and federal courts and in arbitration proceedings as lead and supporting counsel. He also handles class actions, trade secret disputes, contract matters, and other complex commercial conflicts requiring strategic advocacy, detailed preparation, and strong courtroom judgment for clients.
David earned his J.D. from The Ohio State University College of Law in 1997 and his B.A. from Haverford College in 1994. He later clerked for Judge Joseph P. Kinneary of the US District Court for the Southern District of Ohio. He also clerked for the Court of Claims of Ohio. His early judicial experience strengthened his understanding of federal and state litigation, appellate procedure, and judicial decision-making in practice.
David has represented businesses, health care organizations, financial institutions, trustees, beneficiaries, and public entities in significant disputes. He has argued successfully before the US Courts of Appeals for the Second and Sixth Circuits and Ohio appellate courts. He has also served as special counsel to the Ohio Attorney General in litigation involving state entities. His work includes non-compete, trade secret, patent, copyright, probate, fiduciary, contract, arbitration matters, and complex appeals.

He was named Best Lawyers’ 2025 Columbus Lawyer of the Year for Litigation–Intellectual Property and received similar recognition for Litigation–Trusts and Estates in 2023 and 2026.
