David E. Schumacher

David E. Schumacher is a member of Bailey & Wyant, PLLC’s Charleston, West Virginia office whose practice centers on civil litigation and dispute resolution. Schumacher handles insurance defense, medical and health care malpractice, product liability, personal injury, governmental liability, insurance coverage, unfair trade practices, and legal and professional liability matters. He also serves as a mediator in personal injury, medical, and other complex claims, bringing decades of litigation experience to the resolution process.

Schumacher earned his J.D. from West Virginia University College of Law in 1980 and his B.A. summa cum laude from Hampden-Sydney College in 1977. He is admitted to the West Virginia State Bar, the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of West Virginia, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. His education and long litigation background support his work on complex civil and professional liability matters.

Before joining Bailey & Wyant, Schumacher was the founding member and managing partner of a boutique defense firm for 12 years. He has worked as a mediator in personal injury, medical, and complex claims for nearly 20 years and has belonged to the West Virginia and Kanawha County bar associations for more than 37 years. He has also served on the West Virginia State Bar Law and Medicine Committee for more than 25 years.
