David C. Smith

David C. Smith is a partner at Lonabaugh and Riggs, LLP, where he has practiced since 2000. His work centers on trust and estate planning, probate and trust administration, real estate and commercial transactions, business formation and planning, and construction law. He provides clients with reliable counsel on both personal and business legal issues, combining experience, insight, and dedication to delivering practical solutions.

David earned his J.D., with honors, from the University of Wyoming College of Law, where he ranked first in his class and was elected to the Order of the Coif. He also served as Comment Editor for the Wyoming Land and Water Law Review. Earlier, he received his A.B. from Cornell University. His education provided the foundation for his professional excellence and success in multiple areas of practice.

After graduating, David clerked for the Honorable William F. Downes, Chief United States District Judge in Wyoming. He later served as United States Magistrate Judge in Sheridan, Wyoming, from 2009 to 2012. His experience as both a clerk and judge adds depth to his practice, allowing him to anticipate challenges and provide clients with carefully considered strategies across probate, real estate, and business law matters.

Active in his community, David C. Smith has served as Trustee for the Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County and Director for the Child Development Center, Region II. In addition to his civic service, he is admitted to the Wyoming and Colorado State Bars and to federal district courts in both states.
