David B. Bonham is a non-equity partner at Seager Tufte Wickhem LLP and a registered patent attorney with a broad intellectual property practice. He advises clients on patent portfolio strategy, development, and management, as well as prosecution and clearance studies. With decades of experience, David has prepared and prosecuted more than 300 patent application families for leading companies in industries such as medical devices, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, vaccines, chromatography, and organic electronics. His work includes drafting legal opinions and overseeing freedom-to-operate assessments for new product launches.

David earned his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 1994. He holds a Ph.D. and an M.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Virginia, with research focused on semiconductors and bioengineering. Earlier, he received his B.S. in Chemistry from Roanoke College in 1982. He also completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Johns Hopkins University.

Before joining Seager Tufte Wickhem LLP, David was a principal at Kacvinsky Daisak Bluni (2014–2022) and previously a partner at Mayer & Williams PC. He began his legal career at Kenyon & Kenyon, one of the nation’s prominent intellectual property law firms. His scientific acumen supports his legal strategies, particularly in areas such as polymer chemistry, nanotechnology, electrochemistry, and industrial chemicals.

David B. Bonham is a patent attorney licensed in Virginia and Washington, DC, and registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). His research has been published in leading scientific journals, including AIChE Journal, Biotechnology and Bioengineering, and the Journal of the Electrochemical Society. Combining deep technical expertise with strategic legal insight, he helps clients translate complex technologies into strong, enforceable intellectual property protections and advanced patent solutions.
