Richard Dyer is a partner and registered patent attorney at Seager Tufte Wickhem LLP, with extensive experience in intellectual property law. His practice spans a wide range of technologies, including electronic design tools, manufacturing processes, analog and digital circuits, optics, displays, memory technologies, robotics, autonomous systems, medical devices, virtual reality, blockchain, wireless systems, and machine learning. Richard helps clients prepare and prosecute patents both in the U.S. and internationally, while also supporting IP enforcement, licensing, and strategic portfolio development.
Richard earned his J.D. from Lewis and Clark Law School and holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Physics from Portland State University. This strong technical foundation allows him to communicate effectively with engineers, scientists, and legal professionals across disciplines.
Richard Dyer has worked in both private practice and in-house settings, including his prior roles as a partner at Kacvinsky Daisak Bluni (2013–2022), of counsel at Omikron IP Law Group, and as in-house counsel at Mentor Graphics Corporation. He began his legal career with a law school internship at Intel Corporation and earlier worked as an engineer and graduate researcher in machine learning at Portland State University.
Richard’s services extend beyond prosecution to include opinion work (invalidity, non-infringement), open source software audits, contract drafting, merger and acquisition IP due diligence, and freedom-to-operate assessments. Richard also assists with IP enforcement by evaluating infringement claims and negotiating resolutions.
Licensed in Washington and Oregon and registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, Richard Dyer is an active member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the J. Reuben Clark Law Society. His combination of legal skill and engineering insight makes him a valuable asset for clients navigating the complex world of intellectual property.
