About
Daphne Moritz is Of Counsel at Sheehey Furlong & Behm in White River Junction, Vermont. She joined the firm in 2016 and practices estate planning and administration. Her work also includes asset protection, elder law, special needs planning, company formation, and succession planning for small business owners and farmers. She helps clients address health care needs, protect assets, maintain independence, and consider tax concerns.
Daphne earned a J.D. from Vermont Law School in 1990 and an M.S.E.L. magna cum laude from the same school in 1990. She received a B.A. cum laude from Dickinson College in 1986. Her private and public practice background accompanies work in estate planning, elder law, and special needs planning. She advises families and business owners on arrangements involving assets, benefits, and the transfer or continuation of a business.
Daphne assists clients with complex tax planning, blended families, heirloom real estate, long-term care Medicaid planning, and Medicaid applications. She helps families plan for loved ones with special needs while maintaining government services and benefits. Before joining Sheehey, she was a partner at Melendy Moritz PLLC. She also worked as a child support attorney, served as an acting magistrate, and led a nonprofit supporting early childhood educators.
Daphne Moritz is a member and past president of the Vermont Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. She writes and teaches on estate planning ethics, farm succession, IRAs, and Medicaid planning. Planning often involves decisions that affect more than one generation or institution. Her practice addresses those connected concerns by considering asset arrangements, care needs, benefit eligibility, and business succession together in the context of each client’s goals.
