About
Eliza H. van Lennep is a partner at Langrock Sperry & Wool, LLP in Burlington, Vermont. Her litigation practice includes employment law discrimination, contract disputes, landlord and tenant matters, Title IX proceedings, and post-secondary education issues. She also handles family law and probate court matters. Her work combines contested representation with collaborative and mediated approaches, depending on the circumstances of the dispute and the parties’ ability to reach agreement.
Eliza earned a J.D. from Vermont Law School in 2018 and a B.A. from Smith College in 2009. She served as Head Notes Editor of the Vermont Law Review and was a Dean’s Fellow. Her academic work included moot court participation and legal clerkships. Research, editing, and advocacy experience help support the careful preparation needed to explain legal arguments and evaluate the facts behind a contested matter.
Eliza’s family practice includes divorce, child support, parental rights and responsibilities, and parent-child contact. Her probate experience includes guardianships and adoptions, including second-parent and stepparent adoptions. She also completed an Albert Schweitzer fellowship project concerning Title IX rights and obligations. These areas call for attention to individual relationships alongside the legal procedures used to resolve disputes and establish responsibilities affecting children, families, and educational institutions.
Eliza H. van Lennep received the National Association of Women Lawyers award at law school graduation. She belongs to bar and professional organizations and is admitted in Vermont and federal courts. Her family work seeks practical outcomes that improve parent relationships and parent-child relationships. Across her practice, she helps clients consider settlement options while remaining prepared to pursue litigation when agreement is unavailable and a judicial decision becomes necessary.
