About
Doug Brines, Esq., is an associate attorney at Montroll, Oettinger, & Barquist P.C. in Burlington, Vermont. His current practice focuses primarily on real estate transactions and estate planning. His listed services include residential real estate transactions, commercial transactions and licensing, and probate. He provides personalized, attentive representation in matters where clients must consider property interests, business commitments, and arrangements intended to support their future plans.
Doug earned a JD from Vermont Law School in 2011 and a BS in News/Editing from the University of Colorado, Boulder, School of Journalism and Mass Communication in 2002. He worked as a newspaper editor before pursuing law. Journalism and legal study both call for careful reading and clear communication, skills that are useful when examining documents and explaining the legal significance of a proposed arrangement.
Doug previously supported a legal team representing uranium miners and their families at the Spence Law Firm. He also worked as a litigation paralegal before law school. After graduation, he became a staff attorney at Disability Rights Vermont and later ran his own practice. Those roles exposed him to advocacy and varied client needs before he developed his present focus on property transactions and estate planning.
Doug Brines served on the Charlotte Children’s Center board from 2015 through spring 2022. His career combines legal support work, rights advocacy, and independent practice with his current transactional services. Property and estate matters require clients to make decisions that may have lasting effects. His emphasis on personal attention helps keep the individual client’s circumstances central while legal documents and practical questions are reviewed.
