About
Daniel R. Hughes is an experienced attorney with a practice spanning municipal law, civil litigation, and complex advisory matters. He began his legal career in 2004 as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable G. Edward Welmaker of the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit, gaining early courtroom and research experience that continues to inform his legal approach.
Daniel completed his undergraduate education at Furman University, earning a B.A. in 2000. He later obtained his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina in 2004. This academic background provided a structured foundation in legal analysis, writing, and advocacy that supports his diverse and evolving legal practice.
Daniel maintains a broad municipal law practice and currently serves as General Counsel for multiple municipalities, including Greer, Mauldin, Simpsonville, Pickens, Easley, and Reidville. His work involves advising local governments on compliance, governance, and litigation, while also acting as a trusted legal resource for public entities.
Daniel has significant experience handling civil litigation and appellate matters in both trial and appellate courts. His reported cases include decisions such as City of Greer v. Humble, K&S Food Services, Inc. v. City of Mauldin, and Rogozinski v. City of Simpsonville, reflecting consistent involvement in complex legal disputes.
Daniel also represents individuals and businesses in estate planning, probate administration, probate litigation, real property litigation, real estate transactions, small business matters, personal injury claims, and Social Security Disability cases. This range of services allows him to address both long-term planning needs and unexpected legal challenges.
Daniel has contributed to his community through prior service as general counsel for the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce and as a board member for Greer Community Ministries and Greenville Community Foundation. In recognition of his service, he received the “Sud” Pagett Volunteer of the Year award in 2014.
