About

Daniel M. Surprenant is a Massachusetts attorney nationally recognized for his work in estate planning and elder law. His practice focuses on protecting assets from long-term care costs, estate taxes, and planning for individuals with special needs. He is a Certified Elder Law Attorney (CELA), a distinction awarded by the National Elder Law Foundation.

Daniel earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and later received his Juris Doctorate from Suffolk University Law School. He is licensed to practice in Massachusetts and before the United States District Court, bringing broad courtroom and advisory experience to his legal work.

Daniel joined Surprenant and Beneski, P.C. in 2006 and assumed ownership of the firm with his sister, Michelle Beneski, in 2010. Prior to joining the firm, Daniel worked as a civil litigator handling complex medical malpractice and construction site accident cases. Earlier in his career, he served as an Assistant District Attorney in Bristol County, where he prosecuted criminal cases and was assigned to the Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Unit and the Homicide Response Team.

Daniel is deeply involved in professional education and leadership within the legal community. He regularly lectures on elder law, estate planning, trust planning, and special needs planning. He also authors articles for Elder Law Today, contributes to myfamilyestateplanning.com, and writes guides focused on retirement and long-term planning.

Daniel’s professional memberships include the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, Wealth Counsel, the Estate Planning Council of Massachusetts, the Forum of Estate Planning Attorneys, and the Special Needs Alliance. He has served as President of the Massachusetts chapter of NAELA, President of the Bristol County Bar Association, and as a Director and Treasurer of the Massachusetts Forum of Estate Planning Attorneys.

Daniel M. Surprenant has been named to the Thomson Reuters and Boston Magazine Super Lawyers list multiple years and was recognized as Best of the Best in Elder Law by Southcoast Media Group.
