Daniel J. Burnham

Daniel J. Burnham is a partner in the Chicago office of Nixon Peabody LLP, where he focuses on intellectual property law. He has deep experience handling patent, trademark, and copyright matters across various technologies. Daniel represents clients in U.S. federal courts and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), providing strategic advice to protect innovations and resolve IP disputes.

Daniel earned his J.D., cum laude, from Saint Louis University. He holds a B.S.M.E. with honors from the University of Illinois. He uses his engineering background to guide clients throughout the product development process. His goal is to help clients avoid patent conflicts and protect their products through smart intellectual property strategies. He has worked with both emerging-growth companies and large global corporations. His experience includes creating and managing patent and trademark portfolios, as well as handling complex litigation and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) matters in the U.S., Europe, and China.

Daniel’s technical experience covers areas such as biosensing, medical devices, dental software, gaming systems, semiconductor lasers, consumer products, nutraceuticals, pipe repair technology, and more. Daniel is also skilled at drafting and negotiating technology-related contracts and licensing agreements.
